I have friends who work for the law firms that are involved in this matter.
The police were never after Ford - at least initially. They were taking the opportunity of the video scandal to make a major bust on the Dixon Bloods, a notorious gang in Etobicoke responsible for the drug and weapons trade in that area. They then made a major bust on the gang and retreived a bunch of cell phones and laptops. One of those laptops contained the Ford crack smoking video. It was deleted but was recovered by the police I.T. team later in the summer months.
But back in early May and June when they started to surveil the areas in question they noticed the mayor was frequenting those areas and meeting with Alejandor Lisi who was also known to police as a small time drug dealer. This was shortly after the scandal broke in May.
The Mayor then held a press conference and proclaimed that the video in question "doesn't exist" even though he was still meeting with Lisi and calling him incessantly. Wire tap information revealed Lisi was calling, harassing and threatening various persons with respect to the video.
Then one of the men in the famous picture with Ford, Anthony Smith, fell to his death in highly suspicious circumstances which police are treating as a homicide.
Police then ramp up their investigation as they suspected there may be a link between the Mayor, Lisi, and the death of Anthony Smith. However, after months of surveillance they simply could not connect those dots with the evidence on hand and finally charged Lisi with extortion.

I believe that the police has more and will be released later . I also believe that some segments of the police force was protecting Ford

Well I haven't heard any thing of that sort from my grapevine. What the grapevine is saying is that the only way the Mayor could be brought in at this stage is if Lisi decides to sing like a canary and get a good plea deal. The police however, do suspect the mayor was involved in some way (read conspiracy to commit murder) in the death of Anthony Smith. They just don't have sufficient evidence at his point in time to lay charges.
