ISLAMABAD:
NATO
helicopters and fighter jets attacked two military outposts in northwest
Pakistan
on Saturday, killing as many as 28 troops and plunging US-Pakistan relations, already deeply frayed, further into crisis.
Pakistan retaliated by shutting down vital NATO supply routes into Afghanistan, used for sending in almost half of the alliance's non-lethal materiel.
The attack is the worst single incident of its kind since Pakistan uneasily allied itself with Washington in the days immediately following the Sept 11, 2001 attacks on US targets.

Reid Flair, the 25-year-old son of WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, died Friday, wrestlingobserver.com is reporting. Details surrounding his death are unknown at this time.
Flair's agent, Melinda Morris Zanoni, released the following statement: "We are heartbroken to confirm that Ric's son, Reid, has passed away today March 29, 2013 in Charlotte, NC. The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. Reid was an incredible son, brother, friend, and professional wrestler. No words can describe the grief that Ric and his family are experiencing and they do request privacy during this devastating time."
According to wcnc.com, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police received a call around 10:30 a.m. ET that a man was unresponsive in a hotel room. Police identified the man as Reid Flair. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
Reid Flair had been wrestling in Japan occasionally for the last year to improve his skills in the ring. He was in the U.S. and scheduled to tour with his father this weekend.
He was expected to be signed by WWE at some point in the future, as his father has recently rejoined the company.

Nelson Mandela's ex-wife Winnie marks Good Friday at a Methodist church in Soweto, South Africa. (SOUNDBITE) (English) EX -WIFE OF FORMER SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT NELSON MANDELA, WINNIE MADIKIZELA MANDELA, SAYING: "We are extremely touched and very very humbled by the praying fraternity. And we were very touched this morning when we heard president Barack Obama also wishing Tata (Mandela) well." Mandela is being treated for a recurring lung infection, but officials say he is responding well to treatment. Mandela's fragile health has been a concern for years, prompting him to withdraw from the public eye and worrying supporters. (SOUNDBITE) (English) LOCAL RESIDENT, DARYL BARK, SAYING: "He's a good man, he's changed our country, he's only brought good things to the country and we wish him well. Please Madiba, get better." (Reuters) - The winner of one of the biggest Powerball jackpots of all time owes $29,000 in overdue child support payments, the Passaic County, New Jersey, sheriff's office said on Thursday.
Pedro Quezada, 44, a county resident who is married and the father of five children ages 5 to 23, was the sole winner of a $338 million jackpot on Saturday.
Because he chose the lump sum option, instead of annual payments over 30 years, he will actually receive $211 million, lottery officials said on Thursday. Officials said that is the third-largest lump sum payment in Powerball history.
The lottery will take out a total of 28 percent in federal and state taxes, which would leave Quezada, who until this week was the owner of a bodega in Passaic, New Jersey, with about $152 million.
His Apple Deli & Grocery now has a "for sale" sign on the door. Quezada told reporters on Tuesday that the business is now closed.
Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik said in a statement that his office is attempting to notify Quezada about the support payment. He said that generally the state's lottery division would pay the judgment out of the winnings.
"Like everyone else, until this warrant is satisfied, Mr. Quezada is subject to potential arrest," the statement said.
The child support issue dates back to 2009, according to local media reports.
Quezada could not be reached for comment.

Brett "Shady" Shadle, the SEAL Team Six member who died after a training accident in Arizona this week, was "one of the best," a former colleague at the elite unit told ABC News.
"Both tactically on the battlefield and at home, he was one of the best SEALs I've ever worked with," said an ex-SEAL Team Six member who served with Shadle for years. "His reputation was that of a great operator, a true friend and a nice guy."

Shadle, a 31-year-old Pennsylvania native, was one of two SEAL Team Six members involved in a serious accident during routine freefall training in Arizona Thursday. Both SEALs were taken to a nearby hospital where Shadle succumbed to his injuries, according to Defense officials. The other SEAL is in stable condition, the Navy said.
