University of West Indies...Would You Recommend It?

My mission is to get my teenage son into an Ivy League school like MIT or NYU (US), but I have often thought of sending him to a school abroad. No matter where my search takes me, I end up at the doorsteps of University of West Indies. The programs offered seem to be far more interesting than anything I have learned of other overseas schools. Does it have a good reputation? I welcome your honest feedback.

I don't know about the University of West Indies, however I do know that Cuba continues to pump out some of the best doctors in THE WORLD, but the propaganda machine will never allow you hear this information.

I had no idea that UWI had an interesting curriculum by any measurement at all. 

I always saw UWI as a clone of western uni's, very technical and very much out of sync with  the needs of west indian development.  we have a big university, campuses all over the region and it did nothing for west indian development.

UWI is now what..about 56 years old..since 1958 or or so yet in that time west indian society has gone from bad to worse.  I see no impact or contribution of a positive nature that university has made to the development of the west indies.  UWI produces no scholars/scientists that have made any discoveries that have led to west indian industrialization or economic development and independence in the word..in computers and communications, in agriculture,sociology, history,anthropology, maths...nothing.

I may be wrong..I dont know... but to me UWI was always just there, had nutten at all to do with the west indies, a detached presence that had no impact on my life,on the life around me..a freaking clone pappyshow that is more westernized than actual western unis. 

the only good thing I imagined about UWI is that the teachers were good, regardless of the content they teach, were strict and ensured that their students learned what they taught..as is the case with the west indian primary/high school system. they teach westernized crap at all levels but they teach it well.

anyhow I don't see what difference it makes with western universities..they are all the same. go to one go to the other, go to all... same difference save in prestige.  go to Harvard, princeton and the ivy leagues..cambridge and oxford and it does make an active diff with your career for obvious reasons. and those unis can be cutting edge in areas of research and development the government/elites want and pay money to have investigated.

but to my mind UWI would be paid money for the opposite..paid not to do work that would result in challenge of the dominance of the western universities and lead to powerful regional success and independence. and it would be the same with all the developing world universities..in africa and all over the formerly colonial world.  the west wants no challenge to its dominance and works assiduously to prevent the emergence of any and all development that may lead to such challenge

I dont know but if my children wanted to be doctors I would send them to Cuba.  science.. I would send them to the nearest university with the best program. or indeed whichever uni they wanted to go to.  it really does not make much difference as far as I see..save in an area like computers and communications technology.

this is the technology that gives the government the means of complete and total social control so the elite have allocated great quantities of cash for research and development in that area..and no other, save in weapons of mass destruction, the military and control of agriculture, such as the development of GMO organisms.  everything else is dormant.

so if computers...programming, technology etc is your thing, dive in..most of the western unis are prolly well funded in that general area, the programs excellent etc.  also if you like to splice genes and construct military programs to kill lots of people, build bombs, weaponize diseases and so on.. you in business.

I don't suppose the UWI does any of that sort of thing..and is nowhere near cutting edge in any university subject at all. 

UWI funding would be to keep the university misdirected and backward. the UWI may produce graduates good for the regional bureaucracies and corporations and politics..lawyers and killer doctors, agricultural graduates who know nutten at all about west indian agricultue from very technical courses that have nutten to do with developing the regional food production base...but little else

I am surprised to hear the feedback, but I thank you for your honest opinion.

I recommend Grenada"s Medical University ...
