Rajapaksa Lose !

Sri Lanka's long-time leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has been defeated in the presidential election.

Maithripala Sirisena has won 51.3% of the vote.

The two biggest minorities - Tamil Hindus and Muslims -

voted for Mr Sirisena in large numbers, and probably swung the vote his way.

Their vote was more anti-Rajapaksa than pro-Sirisena. 

Both  Rajapaksa and Sirisena are Sinhalese, the majority ethnic group in Sri Lanka.

Sirisena had done little to reach out to the minorities on the campaign trail.

It will be difficult for him to ignore their grievances now, including constitutional changes

for a settlement of the ethnic grievances that fuelled the long war against the hindus.

Questions also surround Bodu Bala Sena - the hard-line Buddhist monks' organisation

that has peddled hatred and violence against Muslims and Christians for the past two years.

Will it simply disappear with the demise of a government that tolerated it ?  :-\

What?!?! Violence, hatred, division and injustice caused by religious intolerance?

That can't be.  After all, the world is better off with religion rather than without it.  ::LOL::

Let's stick to the political views on Sri Lanka instead of the religiously perspectives,  the politicians use religion to brainwash the minds of the weaker poor people. That been said, as kethim noted both leaders are sinhalese , what's in store for the minorities who have suffered at the hands of the tyranny government in Lanka.  Even jagdeo wants to know. Jagdeo was appointed ambassador , as a peace observers of the commonwealth .
