Sr. Beatrice Fernandes
The former Head of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Orphanage, Sister Beatrice Fernandes, died on Sunday, ending a long battle with cancer, close associates confirmed.
Fernandes,72, is remembered as a very compassionate person who played a significant role in the development of youths in the church and wider society.
She passed away at the St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Guyana.
Gino Persaud, a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church and former member of the Youth Adult Ministry of the diocese, recalls that Sr. Beatrice motivated youths.
“She was truly a gifted nun with a difference and her accomplishments speak for themselves. She deserved a national award,†Persaud told Demerara Waves Online News (

)
Sr. Beatrice also ran the Hope In Youth project for homeless and poor children under the auspices of Catholic Cathetics Youth (CCY), imparting in them life-long skills. |

Yes, Sr. Beatrice died a coupla days ago. Those who were lucky to know her are grieving, but she was sick and in a lot of pain, so God in His mercy took her home. RIP Sr. Bea.

I am sure that this was a wonderful woman but my experience with the DM Fernandes people was when they tried to repo my raleigh bicycle after one missed payment in New Amsterdam in my youth days.
