I this is sad that this happened and the beliefs in gods are strong over there and having a tattoo of a goddess which is worshiped can offend them easily, and need to be aware of any cultural differences when travelling over there. I think the man was lucky he was not harmed by the mob as that could of happened if he was in a rural area, so very important to read about the area you are visiting to see what is expected of a tourist. It is scary when a mob attacks someone and even the cops did not help the couple, and made them stay in the police station till he apologized which the guy says he was forced to do it.
