Former US Federal Reserve official Dr. Terence Smith has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Bank of Guyana, effective November 2, 2015. His appointment fills the vacancy created by the secondment of Deputy Governor Mr. Leslie Glen, who was appointed to the post of Advisor to the Executive Director, World Bank. The current governor of the bank is Dr Gobind Ganga.
The Bank of Guyana said that Dr Smith spent more than twenty-three years as a successful United States Federal Reserve Bank staff, in positions such as; Compliance Officer, Senior Commissioned Bank Examiner, Regulator/Examiner, Financial/Technology Auditor and Senior Specialist. He also contributed ten years to the Bankers Trust Company, New York as an Internal Audit Officer. His strong track record of academic accomplishments has prepared him for the position of Deputy Governor.
A native of Guyana, Dr. Smith was educated in the United States of America, where he received from the Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY; BSc, Accounting and Taxation (June, 1979)- New School University, Manhattan, NY; MPS, Management and Audit (May, 1989), PACE University, Manhattan, NY; MSc, Information Systems (Jan, 1999) and Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Ph.D, Information Systems (Aug, 2008).
Deputy Governor Smith received the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, President’s Award for Excellence in Leadership of the Foreign Bank Organisations Year 2000 Readiness Team and Outstanding Performance during the year 2000 Supervision Program. His professional affiliations include: Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA); the Institute of International Auditors (IIA) and visiting Lecturer at the City University of New York.
