Refugees from Guyana

I think Canada granted refugee status to more than 25 000

Forbes Burnham was deemed to be a murderous dictator

and Indo guyanese qualified as Refugees ..

and were afforded protection here !!

Also during the Immigration AMNESTY : all whom were illegal were granted Status

This is mostly due to War ...

Guyana was for political terror !

1969:  Canada signed the United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, and its Protocol,

agreeing not to return a person to their country of origin if that person had grounds to fear persecution.

You know what ?

I wonder which of us posters was admitted to Canada as a Refugee claimant

AND whom got in due to that Amnesty ??

Quite a few of my family and hubby's family came as refugees.

Every last one of them fought until they got PR status and then became Canadians.

Every last one of them fought for 'work permit' while they went through the process

Every last one of them found jobs - no legit job was too demeaning for them to do

Every last one of them has worked and built good lives for themselves and their families

Every one of them, who wanted to, were able to retire early

Canada has been good to me and my family - freedom and opportunities!!!

Post the docu that shows you were granted refugee status
no guyanese were given that anywhere

I don't know exactly what type of doc they were given , but I do know that they were not sent back to Guyana and they were given work permit which allowed them to work in Canada while they went through the refugee/legal process.

and I know this because two of the people were hubby's sisters.
