I read a lot about this story in the news today, and it was actually pretty even keeled when it came to partisan reaction, which I was kind of surprised about. I think that it is good though. The young people of each country are not even really sure why the nations are so against each other, and so for that reason I think a little sign of solidarity can not do anything but help.

I think it's a good start for the two countries to at least try to reconcile. Although I can still sense some awkwardness even just reading the article. Both presidents have their own weaknesses and strengths and that's true even if we compare them to other leaders. I just hope that this supposed reconciliation can lead to further progress and growth of both countries.

Well, the way they were talking about each other's human rights records and all, it was really hard to watch

But, I'm glad things are finally moving forward.

This standoff with Cuba should have ended a long time ago, in fact, it was the United States behaviour towards Cuba that had encouraged that country to turn to Russia and become a communist state. Fidel Castro had ousted Batista, who was a corrupt leader, and sought to make the existence of the citizens more equitable. The large American companies and the mafia didn't like what Castro was doing and they Influenced the crusade against the Fidel Castro regime. The United States is probably the one developed country that is trying to pressure Cuba right now, probably time that they let go of that, which may still not be easy because it seems that many of the Republicans still want to hang on to the grudge against Cuba.
