no matter what format, as long as its recognized as a date, should provide you a number in days.

if you format it as a number do you get anything?

Viviek here is what i want

I have to track my progress with my files (I have Multiple files)

everything is affected by Date (what date i review, date of request for docs, dates of issuances, date of review by others) - everything is a date.

I know what date I start, i know what date I have to end - there are dates in between(milestones lets say).

now i want to have the Data Bar in excel reflect a growth everytime i put in a date at each milestone, while i am getting close to the end date.....

how do i do that?

your syntax/formula should follow the same logic/sequence as when you are adding/substracting a string of numbers. you need to place in brackets the different variables - in this case the number of days between two dates. eg =(d20-b18)-(b12-a34)  etc  - which should give you the results you are looking for.
