For years, Gilbaka Fish has walked around Guyana like the undisputed heavyweight champion of seafood.
Expensive. Popular. Respected.
But one brave Guyanese citizen has finally said what many whisper quietly while eating rice:
“Gilbaka is highly overrated.”
The statement has already shaken kitchens, fish markets, seawalls, and family WhatsApp groups across the country.
Critics argue that while Gilbaka carries celebrity status, the taste itself is often mild, sometimes muddy, and definitely not sweet enough to justify the dramatic price tag.
Meanwhile, supporters are defending the fish like loyal political supporters during election season.
“Yuh nah know good fish!” one uncle reportedly shouted while cleaning scales from other fishes aggressively.
Others say the real stars of the sea have been ignored for years:
Snapper quietly delivering flavor,
Bangamary carrying the curry game,
and Butterfish minding its business while tasting better for half the argument.
Economic analysts are now asking the hard question:
Is Guyana paying luxury prices for reputation… instead of flavor?
One thing is certain:
this debate may divide the nation more than cricket, politics, or whether pepper belongs in cook-up rice.

Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
