Expect to see William Shatner in some restaurant ads. Priceline on Friday reached an agreement to buy online reservation giant OpenTable for $2.6 billion in cash. The acquisition would move the popular travel deal website into the restaurant business, and comes after acquisitions of Kayak and Booking.com. OpenTable claims it serves over 15 million diners a month at more than 31,000 restaurants. Priceline agreed to pay $103 a share which was a 46 percent premium on Thursday's closing price.

Chuck Noll, the Hall of Fame coach who won a record four Super Bowl titles with the Pittsburgh Steelers, died Friday night at his home. He was 82.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner said Noll died of natural causes.

Noll transformed the Steelers from a long-standing joke into one of the NFL's pre-eminent powers, becoming the only coach to win four Super Bowls. He was a demanding figure who did not make close friends with his players, yet was a successful and motivating leader.

The Steelers won the four Super Bowls over six seasons (1974, 1975, 1978 and 1979), an unprecedented run that made Pittsburgh one of the NFL's marquee franchises, one that breathed life into a struggling, blue-collar city.

"He was one of the great coaches of the game," Steelers owner Dan Rooney once said. "He ranks up there with (George) Halas, (Tom) Landry and (Curly) Lambeau."

Nine-time Grand Slam winner Monica Seles is engaged to marry 72-year-old former NHL owner Tom Golisano, he revealed this week.

Seles, 40, and Golisano have dated since 2009. Seles has been retired since 2008 and Golisano sold the Buffalo Sabres in 2011, though he recently has been campaigning to buy the Bills and keep them in Buffalo.

Seles, a two-time U.S. Open winner known for her two-tone grunts and two-handed swings, spent more than 175 weeks ranked No. 1 and was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2009. She won the U.S. Open in 1991 and 1992, part of her nine Grand Slam singles titles, including eight before she turned 20.

In 1993, she was stabbed in the back by a spectator during a changeover at a tournament in Hamburg, Germany, and was away from the tour for more than two years.

[www.inewsguyan.com] – A 24 – year – old father of three children of West Bury Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast hung himself with a curtain at around 3:00 am this morning [Saturday, June 14]. According to his wife, Tomika Marks, she and her husband, Roberto Smith had an argument earlier Friday night but mended the matter later.
She said her husband left to go and talk with a friend nearby and she went to bed. The mother of the children told iNews that she awoke at 3:00 am and noticed her husband did not return.
Upon looking through the front window, she saw him hanging from a tree in their yard. Marks said she quickly rushed to the tree and let loose the curtain, after which she alerted the neighbours.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hospital. The man leaves to mourn a 4 – year – old, 2 – year – old and a one – year – old. He was a carpenter.

In an effort to sniff out corruption across California a year ago, an FBI agent met with football legend Joe Montana under the guise of a potential investor for Montana’s new hotel venture next to the new San Francisco 49ers’ stadium.

Montana was reportedly unaware of the agent’s real identity. Montana was never asked to do anything illegal, but also apparently did not enter into business with the agent, due to not being interested in new investors in general.

After discovering California state Sen. Leland Yee was involved in campaign corruption and gun trafficking, the FBI decided to cast a wide net to all sorts of California investments to see if anyone else was involved in financial illegalities.

Yee’s attorney James Brosnahan revealed the meeting between Montana and the agent in an effort to show that the FBI was blindly groping to find more evidence against Yee, SFGate reports.

“In a sting, they have real reason to believe someone is committing a crime, but here they fanned out all over California to see who would talk to them about anything,” Brosnahan said.

“Who decided to take Joe to lunch and cast a cloud on Northern California’s greatest sports hero?” he continued. “Nobody was exercising any judgment about the scope of this thing.”

Montana has not made any comments about the situation.
