It was a day for rewriting history as Chris Gayle bludgeoned his way into the record books by scoring the first ODI double hundred in a World Cup, not to mention the fact that he became the first non-Indian, and the first to achieve the mark outside of India. Suffice to say, this is the highest score ever made by an individual in the tournament's history. And in true Gayle style, this is the fastest ODI double century of all-time.

If that wasn't enough, Samuels and Gayle also broke the long-standing highest partnership for any wicket in an ODI, compiling 372 runs for the second wicket, which beat the old mark set by Dravid and Ganguly back in 1999. This is also the highest total for the West Indies in an ODI ever.

If you want more, then how about the fact that he equaled the record for most sixes in an ODI with 16, putting himself in illustrious company along AB de Villiers and Rohit Sharma.

Much was said about his misfiring habit of late, but he has silenced the doubters, and the world, in a big way. This World Cup is proving to become one for the ages.

289 wasn't a bad reply.had they strung together a few more good partnerships they might have given a more tougher fight to the windies.
Lets see how long the windies can stay with this killer form.

Lets wait and see what he will do against SA Friday, then I will congratulate him. WI bowling is crap Zim scored 289 at 6.5 runs an over. Just imagine what Aus, India and NZ will do to them.
