FORMER Australian Test opener Justin Langer has shrugged off prospects he is a front-runner to be England cricket’s saviour as its next head coach.

The West Australian coach dismissed as “only rumours” his links with the troubled England Test and limited overs teams after an unsuccessful tour to the West Indies this month and a disastrous World Cup in Australia.

“It’s all rumours. I have not had any contact or discussions with anyone from England cricket,” Langer said on Saturday.

The 105-Test batsman said he remained fully committed to his position as coach of WA cricket.

Langer will be out of contract with the WACA at the end of next summer and has already been widely touted as front-runner eventually to replace current Australian coach Darren Lehmann if he steps aside after the 2017-18 Ashes series on home soil.
