Brathwaite's numbers over the last calendar year have been very good: 53.52 average with 2 fifties and 4 centuries - though, admittedly, these numbers are boosted slightly by the 324 runs he scored against Bangladesh. Even if you take out the runs scored against Bangladesh, his average still stands at 41.86.
Just to add on to this, no opener has scored more runs or centuries over the last calendar year than Brathwaite.

half of his dismissals in England were to spin, and all bar one of the Anderson wickets were from lazy shots, not being beaten by pace or bounce.
I still think he’d have another 6 months in him. And even if he is on the down turn, they just don’t have the senior batsmen in and around the team to help with the transition. Who will they turn to for guidance and experience? The slew of T20 bandits?
The most mature person in the side now is Darren Bravo. And even he has a bucket load still to learn (although i rate him up there with Root and KW when it comes to technique and young temperament).

Whether anyone likes it or not Mikey always speaks his mind.
It was quite funny today when he was on and they showed him kicking the stumps down in NZ.

If Chanderpaul were saying that he deserves a place in the team, that would be one thing. WI have often been guilty of pensioning off their legends too early. Certainly Viv Richards should have played the '92 WC, Dessie Haynes deserved another year or two, and Brian Lara shouldn't have been pushed before the '07 Test tour of England.
But neither he nor his cohorts seem to be seriously disputing that he is past it as a batsman, and is no longer among the best six in the Caribbean. It's staggering that he feels entitled to a farewell Test series. Perhaps it's all the BCCI's fault for setting a precedent.

Correct is right .... and is quite possible that none of this controversy would've occurred had that Test series happened. Oh well thanks to Bravo & co !! :-[ :-[ :-[
