1st ODI : New Zealand v West Indies

I was looking at the Kiwi scoring last night...and the west Indian response...interesting.

Ronsford was better than Babe but ultimately he was expensive too. the pace was going for 6 an over..way too many if you are going to win.

then first change was Holder...which was insane. Holder cant stop the scoring and he cant take wickets. so Gabe and Ronsford gave up 6 per over 5 each so 30+ each. what happened predictably with Holder is he gave the Kiwi 30+ more runs easy as pie and before you knew it...the Kiwi were 90+ for NONE!

Kesrick was brought on and he was effective..at least more effective than all 3 before him

now looking at the overall bowling stats both Beaton and Gabe taken off after 6 overs each bowled their last 4 overs much better than their first 5-6. Kesrick and Nurse were decent all the way through.

what this suggests to me is that Holder does not want to know what he is doing, did not see the game and what was happening during the Kiwi innings and never did anything remotely relevant to winning the game. Holder had to shut down the scoring and Gabe/Ronsford had to be taken off quickly..like after their first 2 overs looking for effective bowling. there were not enough runs to play with

Nurse and Kesrick early would likely have staunched the flow of runs and provided wickets., pulled in the game and given west indies a chance. then Gabe and Ronsford would come back and bowl better.

but Holder appears to be an unconscious captain, unresponsive to the needs of the game as they appear as the game flows, that is the the most easy 90+ plus runs I have ever seen in a game given to the opposition in an ODI

Extra bounce once again and another faint edge off the inside edge of the bat.
