Santa Monica shooting suspect ID'd; father, brother among victims - chairman - 06-09-2013
Santa Monica, California (CNN) -- The suspect in a shooting spree that left four people dead in Santa Monica has been identified as John Zawahri, sources told CNN.
Authorities say he killed his father, Samir "Sam" Zawahri, and brother, Chris Zawahri, in a Santa Monica house before carjacking a woman and firing at a public bus on Friday.
Scant details are trickling in about Zawahri, who was killed by police at Santa Monica College on Friday -- the day before his 24th birthday.
The superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu school district said Zawahri attended a high school for students behind in academic credits in 2006.

Maurice Cheeks is getting a third shot to be an NBA head coach.
The Detroit Pistons are desperately hoping he makes the most of the opportunity he was given Monday.
Cheeks was 284-286 in the regular season and 5-11 during three postseasons while leading the Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers, a team he helped win an NBA title as a point guard.
''After spending some time with Maurice, I was very impressed not only with his basketball knowledge but his communication and leadership skills,'' Pistons owner Tom Gores said in a statement. ''We are very excited to have someone of his experience and talent help take this franchise into the future.''

Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey is a joyride set in Delhi which will remind you a bit of Delhi Belly. The youthful comedy revolves around best buds – Hunny (Pulkit Samrat) and Dileep Singh aka Choocha (Varun Sharma) – who desperately want to get through the city’s coolest college (just to woo girls). The only way their dream will come true is through some jugaad since they are not the brightest of students.
Then there is Lali (Manjeet Singh), a pakka sardar, who is a correspondent student. He prays at a gurudwara every day so that he gets admission in the same college as his girlfriend. The fourth protagonist is Zafar (Ali Faisal) who aspires to become a musician.
Choocha dreams about weird things which Hunny decodes and then comes up with the winning lottery number. So to pursue their dreams, the boys decide to take advantage of Choocha and Hunny’s unique talent and plan to win the state lottery. This is where Bholi Punjaban (Richa Chadda) enters the picture. She is the new-age female gangster, who makes a lot of moolah by selling drugs, betting and what not. You mess with her and she will screw you royally. Hunny, Choocha, Lali and Zafar convince Bholi to invest in their foolproof plan. However, things go awry and the foursome get into trouble and are bullied around by Bholi Punjaban. In between all the drama and chaos, the guys warm up to each other and became buddies.
