Sita singh Guyanese icon - chairman - 10-07-2026 GUYANESE-BORN SITA SINGH DAVENPORT, REMEMBERED FOR THEATRE, FASHION AND A LIFE OF COMPASSION, DIES AT 80 Guyanese-born Sita Singh Davenport, whose life took her from the theatre and beauty industry in Guyana to the world of modelling in London, has died at the age of 80. Davenport, who was born in Guyana on August 25, 1946, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, in St. Petersburg, Florida, following a long illness, according to information provided by her family. She was the daughter of Barrister-at-Law Sugrim Singh and Chandra Singh, and leaves behind her daughter, Gina Gajraj, along with her twin sister, Savitri Prashad, and siblings Dr. Ranjit Singh, Chiquita Rahaman, Kamal Mathews, Sorojini Alli, Andrani Singh, Nandini O'Connell, and Supriya Singh Bodden, CCH. Her brother Krishna Singh predeceased her. Davenport's life reflected a combination of creativity, entrepreneurship and adventure. In the late 1960s, she contributed to Guyana's theatre arts, including an appearance in a production of Mother Courage. According to her family, her photograph remains displayed in the lobby of the Theatre Guild in Guyana. She was also a trained esthetician and hairstylist who established Coiffure d'Elegance, which her family described as one of Guyana's early Parisian-inspired salons in the 1960s. Her ambitions eventually took her beyond Guyana. Davenport moved to London, where she pursued a successful modelling career. Her family recalled a period of her life in early 1970s Europe that brought her into circles that included prominent singers, actors and other figures in the entertainment world. But beyond the glamour and accomplishments of her earlier years, those closest to Davenport say her most enduring legacy was the compassion she showed toward others. Her family described her as someone with a limitless capacity to care, who remained deeply devoted to relatives while also giving back to the communities in which she lived. She is also mourned by her best friend, Ana Heitman Ardon, and numerous nieces and nephews. In remembering Davenport's life, her family shared a simple message they say captured the mission by which she lived: Let's remember the importance of simply being there for one another. For those who knew and loved her, Sita Singh Davenport is remembered not only for a remarkable journey that stretched from Guyana to Europe and the United States, but for a life defined by family, creativity, generosity and human connection. — NewsGuyana24 | Real, Raw & Relevant NG24 Guyana's Breaking News @followers |
