* Dravid ended up on 99 scores over fifty(36 100, 63 50s)

* Lara ended up with 82 scores over fifty(34 100s, 48 50s)


Do you folks know who the 3 batsmen with 100+ scores over fifty are ?

The first one is easy---Sachin Tendulkar has 118 scores over 50---51 hundreds and 67 fifties

[size=14pt]In evaluating the productivity of a batsman once must look at 3 benchmarks:[/size]


1. AVERAGE

2. CONSISTENCY---this is the percentage of total innings played a batsman scores over fifty----for example, Tendulkar has 118 scores over fifty in 327 innings played---that is a CONSISTENCY of 118/327 = 36.0%

3. CONVERSION RATE----Tendulkar converted 51 of his 118 scores over fifty---51/118 = 43.2%



OBSERVATION:

Batsmen with great stats average 50+/they have a consistency above 33.33% and a conversion rate above 30%

Are all batsmen with great stats truly great ?

NO!


The truly great batsmen are those who dominated the eras in which they played.

Example:

1928-1948---Bradman

1954-1974---Sobers

1974-1991---Richards

1991-2006---Lara and Tendulkar

That's pretty interesting, I thought more people had gotten more than 100 50+ games. There have been alot of great players though.

* It takes longevity and an excellent CONSISTENCY to get to 100+ scores over fifty in one's test career.

* Next in line to have 100+ scores over fifty is Shiv Chanderpaul---he currently has 89

* But if Shiv were to maintain his current 35.4% Consistency(89/251)----it would take him 31 innings or over 16 tests to get to 100 scores over fifty.


THE BIG QUESTION:

Will the WICB allow Shiv to play 16 more tests ?

It is the average of the block performance percentage values across a career.

This average is called the Consistency Index.

The higher the average, the more consistent the player.

Let me define player consistency here as : "the ability of players to keep

their sub-par performances to a minimum and close to their mean values".
