How interesting that in identifying the countries of origin that contribute to the 30,000 illegal immigrnats the Minister conspiciously avoids mentioning INDIA whose citizens can enter TNT with a mere Identification Card . T&T needs to protect their sovereignty and the Minister Of National Security is merely performing his duty . Jamaicans and Guyaneses have decided to live and work in T&T , in order to send the foreign currency to their homelands . The ones who are not doing well , commit crimes in order to survive

my sense is that political integration is even more urgent that before...to mange better all thats emerging. and the current situation appears to be completely outside the capability of any dominant neo-colonialist class to manage.
the west indies needs real nationalism..a politics of nationhood that produces a political classed loyal to the region running the show.

well chin deh have a political problem here, that would only yield I suspect to real reform on this issue.
there is great residual bitterness between ordinary west indians in the region dating all the way back. it does not take much to stir it up..and most certainly in this case add an ethnic component given that Indos run Titty now.
at the same time the flare-up does present an opportunity to nip all of that a bit, on the way to killing that long-standing evil kind of sentiment entirely..what we call insularity..by good reform, that probably requires deepening integration.
but that is what they supposed to be doing at the Caricom secretariat anyway...deepening integration. they have a deepening intra-regional migration problem and the only way to solve it is integration and economic development region-wide that begins to grow a better life for the people.
Titty has money and lots of skill capability. there is not exactly an absence of that in the other territories. there is a huge amount of professional skill in the west indian global diaspora.
seems to me all the ingredients are at hand to foster a west indian development that addresses west indian needs.. that would deal with long standing west indian problems and establish base for strong integration.
in the mean time a sincere PR program including what we talked about here..the truth about the migration situation in Trinidad that likely underpins the treatment of the 13 in question..the Jamaican content of that illegal situation and that Titty was simply defending its situation, even if a little hubristic and rough in this instance..should go a long way.
of course compensating the 13 for loss, pain and suffering, and bringing them back to to Titty to complete their business if that is still relevant... would be a nice conciliatory gesture
