Quote:West Indies spinner Sunil Narine has been added to the Test squad for the tour of New Zealand in December. Narine's inclusion came after offspinner Shane Shillingford and part-time spinner Marlon Samuels were reported for suspect actions during West Indies' recent tour of India.

Shillingford and Samuels, along with West Indies coach, Ottis Gibson, are headed to Perth for independent testing on their actions. Samuels' faster ball and Shillingford's doosra were the deliveries under scrutiny during the second Test in Mumbai in November.

Both players are available for selection for the first Test in Dunedin, which begins on December 3, subject to the results of the tests on their actions. Samuels, Shillingford and Gibson are expected to join the West Indies squad in New Zealand over the weekend.

Has this been posted yet? I hope Shilly gets cleared though.

Ottiss going along to give them moral support or to make sure Samuels don't bowl the faster ball or Shilly the doosra ??  Wink  Big Grin

Given the disastrous showing in India, shouldn't the Coach be in New Zealand with the rest of the Windies team during their preparation for the upcoming Tests ?? Surely the Team Manager could've accompanied them ..........

Assuming that any of their "strategies" is supposed to make any sense that is.. Of course, why are we even discussing this?

Haha Big Grin Tbh I would'nt mind if Samuels gets banned from bowling, Shilly - I really haven't seen him do anything that Ajmal didn't.

Ottis Gibson, the West Indies coach, is optimistic that Shane Shillingford and Marlon Samuels will receive positive news on their bowling actions following tests conducted in Perth, but it is not yet certain whether Shillingford will play in the opening Test against New Zealand after what Gibson conceded had been a tough time for the pair.

Samuels is all but certain to line up in the middle order as his primary role is with bat rather than ball, but Gibson wants more time to assess Shillingford's mindset before making the final decision over which frontline spin option to go for in Dunedin.

Otis is now assesing mindset ?

Whappen tp the team psychologist , Dr. Hamilton ?  :-\

If Shillingford is your main spinner then I would play him irrespective, as there is noting better to level the mind than playing.

I am a bit surprised Narine was not on tour, especially in India as I do not think Permaul is a test player just yet. He neither spins nor varies adequately although economical. Guys like these should play lots of ODIs before playing tests as this only serves to destroy prospects.

Are there injury reasons for Rampaul not being on tour?

Rampaul seems to be an impact bowler or a strike bowler who will make early inroads but may not necessarily take a 5for and he is the closest you have to a swing bowler.

After seeing Rampaul in the ODIs in India, I was encouraged to compare his stats with that of Best and Edwards. The latter two are clearly faster but the statistics did not suggest this to me.

I am sure there are good reasons for his omission but he seems really handy.

Yeah could someone shed some light as for why Rampaul isn't included? He should be IMO, he's one of the most improved players in the side.

There's also a major issue of form for the sixth-ranked test side, which is coming off two innings defeats, both inside three days, in India.
Despite all the adversity, the tourists remain a confident bunch, Ramdin said.
"[And] If the weather stays like this I think we'll have some more confidence," he said of Dunedin's 20deg C day yesterday.

Oh totally. I have no idea either. I mean if the side was full of great in form pacers, then fair enough - that's not really the case is it?
Makes no sense. I'd initiaally thought he was injured or something. Apparently not.
