A young boy has been killed and eaten by a crocodile in Papua New Guinea, the second attack this year in the Pacific nation.

Melas Mero, 11, was attacked by a four-metre crcodile while on a fishing trip with his family on the Siloura River in the Gulf Province, in the south of the country.

Authorities managed to hunt down and kill the crocodile, finding the boys hands, legs, and a hipbone inside the animal, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. His decapitated head was found nearby.

The country’s police commander Lincoln Gerari told the local National newspaper:

“The crocodile swept the boy with its tail and then attacked the defenceless child.”
