Quote:"I remain firmly committed to West Indies cricket. I love the game more than ever. I am passionate about my cricket. I continue to practice with focus and dedication. And I still have goals to achieve. I will not be retiring from cricket anytime soon. Infact, I will continue to play cricket as long as I am fit and as long as I am productive with the bat." Shiv Chanderpaul
Shiv will be 40 years old on August 16th, 2014. Those who are envious of his longevity and his success want him gone from West Indies cricket. But Shiv intends to keep on trucking.
* At age 40, Shiv would have played in 156 tests, most by a West Indian and 7th most by any cricketer in history. Shiv has scored 11,414 runs at an average of 51.88 with 29 hundreds and 63 fifties.
good business! the wicb should work with shive and not be pressured by silly opinion to push shive out.
west indies cricket needs shive..apart from the fact that shive is a great batsman. shive must be free to go as long as he can. he has won that right..the right to call his own departure all things being equal
If West Indies had quality young players like Indians Pujara(58.93 avg), Kohli(46.51 avg), Sharma(45.50 avg), and Rahane(42.11), then I'd understand the calls for 40 year old Shiv to make room for a younger player.
But as of today, Shiv is the best batsman in the West Indies and he is currently ranked #5 in the world according to the ICC Test rankings.
* Only 1 West Indian batsman has scored a test hundred after age 40----he played in 5 tests after age 40 and scored 1 hundred and 2 fifties---he also averaged 50.85 in those 5 tests after age 40.

I think this was succinctly and very well put MAPPIPPEE.
