Quote:"I remain firmly committed to West Indies cricket. I love the game more than ever. I am passionate about my cricket. I continue to practice with focus and dedication. And I still have goals to achieve. I will not be retiring from cricket anytime soon. Infact, I will continue to play cricket as long as I am fit and as long as I am productive with the bat." Shiv will be 40 years old on August 16th, 2014. Those who are envious of his longevity and his success want him gone from West Indies cricket. But Shiv intends to keep on trucking.

* At age 40, Shiv would have played in 156 tests, most by a West Indian and 7th most by any cricketer in history. Shiv has scored 11,414 runs at an average of 51.88 with 29 hundreds and 63 fifties.

good business!  the wicb should work with shive and not be pressured by silly opinion to push shive out.

west indies cricket needs shive..apart from the fact that shive is a great batsman.  shive must be free to go as long as he can.  he has won that right..the right to call his own departure all things being equal

If West Indies had quality young players like Indians Pujara(58.93 avg), Kohli(46.51 avg), Sharma(45.50 avg), and Rahane(42.11), then I'd understand the calls for 40 year old Shiv to make room for a younger player.

But as of today, Shiv is the best batsman in the West Indies and he is currently ranked #5 in the world according to the ICC Test rankings.

TIDBITS:

* Only 1 West Indian batsman has scored a test hundred after age 40----he played in 5 tests after age 40 and scored 1 hundred and 2 fifties---he also averaged 50.85 in those 5 tests after age 40.

* Boycott scored 3 test hundreds after age 40.

ANOTHER TIDBIT:

* No member of the 10,000+ club in test cricket has ever scored a hundred at age 40----there are currently 11 members of the 10K club.

* If Shiv were to score another test hundred he'd be the first member of the 10K club to score a hundred after age 40.

Rev,

Shiv can have all the plans or no plans as he desires!  If Butts and Opiss says he is gone, he is gone!

If Shiv fails to produce "Shiv like" performances in the next test series, he is history!

Googs:

* Let's take a look at Shiv's batting average in his last 3 test series:

Quote:48.75---Shiv's average in 3 tests vs NZ---2014

64.00---Shiv average in 3 tests vs NZ ---2013

44.33---Shiv's average in 2 tests vs India

OBSERVATION:

* In 2 of his last 3 series Shiv's series average has been below 50----but at least he is in the 40s.

NOW CHECK THE GREAT DARREN BRAVO---his last 3 series

37.00 vs NZ

65.50 vs NZ

25.00 vs India

* If Shiv were to have similar series average to the great Darren Bravo----30s vs NZ and 20s vs India---he would be sent packing.

* Some West Indians ---Shiv haters---are praying for Shiv to perform like the great Bravo----he'll be dropped in a millisecond.

I think this was succinctly and very well put MAPPIPPEE.

* Shiv in previous years has dominated English county cricket bowlers. He had great success playing for Durham, Lancashire and Warwickshire.

* But over the past 2 years he has struggled playing for Derbyshire.

* Click on the link for Derbyshire's current match against Essex.

* Playing in his 6th match for Derbyshire in 2014 Shiv average is only 50.85 with no hundreds and 4 fifties.
