SOME GUYANESE WILL COMPLAIN EVEN WHEN THE COUNTRY IS BEING SPRUCED UP!
Let me ask a simple question: When you invite an important guest to your home, don't you clean, paint, tidy up and make the place look presentable? So why is it suddenly a problem when Guyana does the same for our capital city, Georgetown, as we welcome the King of England?
This is not just about a royal visit. It is about national pride, presentation and respect for our country. Georgetown is our capital. It is the face of Guyana, and we should want every visitor, whether a king, an investor, a tourist or a fellow Caribbean citizen, to see a city that reflects our potential and ambition.
The same people who complain when Georgetown looks dirty are now complaining when efforts are being made to clean it up. ABSURD! So what exactly do you want? A filthy capital or a beautiful one? And now that it's clean, WILL YOU KEEP IT CLEAN? YES, YOU!
You cannot demand progress and then ridicule the very efforts to achieve it!
Yes, the work must continue long after the King leaves and you have your part to play. Clean streets, proper drainage, attractive public spaces and responsible waste management must become a permanent culture. But that is all the more reason to welcome these improvements, not discredit them.
Our country deserves better than constant CYNICISM. We can criticise constructively, demand sustainability and still appreciate good work when it is being done.
A little national pride would do some people a world of good! If you would spruce up your own home for a visitor, have the same respect for the home we all share: GUYANA.
Let us show off Georgetown with pride. Let us welcome our guests with dignity. And let us remember that patriotism is not merely waving a flag; it is taking pride in how our country looks, how it functions and how we present it to the world.
GUYANA IS OUR HOME. LET US TREAT IT LIKE ONE! ??
