A fire of unknown origin late Wednesday gutted the one storey house of Rajendra Deo of Lot 52 Newtown Enmore East Coast Demerara.
Eyewitnesses say the blaze started around 5:30 pm.
At the time Deo, age 30 who villagers described as an “Obeah Man’, was not at home.
One neighbor said the fire started in the centre of the small wooden cottage and quickly engulfed the building.
Several dozens of creole chickens, doves and pigeons that were locked in two pens were killed in the blaze, which was quickly contained by firemen.
Deo is a spiritualist who usually travels across Guyana a lot and is believed to be out of town at the moment.
