Fire guts several Regent St.businesses, one store owner collapsedJuly 31, 2012  By INews Guyana Leave a Comment [Image: 396152_10151054332592856_328390614_n-300x223.jpg]A fire on unknown origin early Tuesday morning gutted several Regent Street, Georgetown Stores, including Lucky Dollar, Boyo’s and Indra’s Fashion.
The blaze started a little after 5:00AM  inside a Chinese store and quickly spread, eyewitnesses say.
There are reports of a number of loud explosions  in the early stages of the fire.
Fire fighters were however restricted due by lack of any working fire hydrants in the busy shopping area,  forcing them to access water from the north Road canal, several yards away.[Image: 251918_354939784584252_1172533139_n-300x300.jpg]
Up to later Monday the fire fighters were busy trying to contain the blaze from spreading to the City Mall.
Meanwhile, co owner of Indra’s fashion Ramdat Sheowprasad, 65 collapsed and died of a heart attack after receiving the news of the fire.

Not sure about Arson...but given the political climate, who knows, anything is possible. The fire started in a Chinese restaurant "a little after 5am"...who's cooking in a restaurant then? Hmmm....

Bai this is the Guy Fire Dept...they will wait until a fire happens before they find out that the hydrants aren't working. Guyana has no maintenance...they should all be reprimanded for failure to perfrom their jobs. Who is responsible for such goof-ups?

One businessman, Ramdat Sherpersaud, 64, who lost his store collapsed upon seeing the fire and was pronounced dead minutes later at a city Hospital.
