A recent study shows that people who were more active had more grey matter. The MRI scan of showed an increase in grey matter volume in the Hippocampus region or the region of your memory.

This study was done among older people and this also shows that the most active not only burned more calories but  also had 5% more grey matter than those who were less active.. read on.. for more information.

I think that this study may actually help understand some other studies that have been done on older people. I am thinking about studies similar to the one about recognizing untrustworthy people as discussed here.

Perhaps people who are among the most active benefits form this activity in a way that is greater than what we already know.
