A Siparia mother of one was gunned down by intruders who broke open her front door on Tuesday night. Police are not clear on a motive but are working on the theory that Curlene Rodney, 32, was not the person the killers intended to shoot. The incident took place on SS Erin Road, Siparia, around 10.30 pm. Rodney lived upstairs the house with her common-law husband while other relatives occupied the downstairs apartment.
Police said the intruders barged through the front door and shot Rodney in the neck. Her husband, who was in the bedroom, heard a loud explosion after which Rodney ran into the room bleeding. He ran outside to get help. When he returned to the room his wife was unresponsive. She died in the room. The District Medical Officer visited the scene, examined the body and ordered its removal to the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital.
The body was then taken to Forensic Science Centre, St james, for an autopsy. Police received information that a white Nissan B14 was seen speeding from the house after the shooting. Neighbours said Rodney had moved into the house about six weeks ago. When a team from the T&T Guardian visited the house yesterday the upstairs front and back doors were open but no one responded to calls. A team of officers from the nearby Siparia CID and also homicide detectives visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
