News reports indicate that thousands of people are dead. Some 500 bodies are rotting near Kedarnath and rescuers have not reached the place yet. The pro-Muslim ruling party is delaying the rescue efforts, partly because the victims are mostly Hindu pilgrims.
Apart from Indian citizens, more than 400 Nepalis are either dead or missing, according to the Nepali media.
