More than 20 people have been injured during a fireworks display in California to celebrate Independence Day.

Authorities said a wooden platform holding live fireworks tipped over, sending the pyrotechnics into the crowd at a park in Simi Valley.

Mobile phone footage filmed by a spectator showed fireworks exploding close to the ground, apparently out of control.

Four people were listed in serious condition, but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
