Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan's sports empire is spreading overseas.
Khan is officially the new owner of Fulham F.C. of the English Premier League. The press release announcing the move Friday said Khan assumes 100 percent ownership of the club. A formal announcement is scheduled in London on Saturday. News of the possible ownership transfer leaked out Wednesday.
Training camp previews
Around the League unveils key questions facing each team in every division leading up to the start of training camp.
"Fulham is the perfect club at the perfect time for me," Khan said in a statement. "I want to be clear, I do not view myself so much as the owner of Fulham, but a custodian of the club on behalf of its fans. My priority is to ensure the club and Craven Cottage each have a viable and sustainable Premier League future that fans of present and future generations can be proud of. We will manage the club's financial and operational affairs with prudence and care, with youth development and community programs as fundamentally important elements of Fulham's future."
Khan committed to play a "major role" in growing the NFL brand in London after committing the Jaguars to playing overseas once a year for the next four seasons. (Starting in October against the San Francisco 49ers.)
Khan has steadfastly addressed his strong commitment to the city of Jacksonville, and he has backed that up by investing significant financial resources on the team's stadium. Still, this adventure into London shows a desire to grow his revenue and potentially grow the Jaguars' name overseas. It's not fair to Jaguars fans, but the move will only increase speculation about the team someday moving overseas, too. London papers already are suggesting as much.
Khan addressed the issue in an email to Jaguars season-ticket holders.
"Fulham and the Jaguars each have a great responsibility," he wrote, via The Florida Times-Union. "Both deserve nothing less than a 100 percent commitment from ownership. In short, our pledge to you -- a Jaguars franchise that is proud, bold and committed -- remains unchanged."

State Dept. Orders Yemen Evacuation
The U.S. State Department on Tuesday ordered all American citizens to leave Yemen “immediately†due to security threats, and all staff in the British Embassy have already been withdrawn. “The security-threat level in Yemen is extremely high,†the State Department warns. Yemeni intelligence services reportedly discovered threats from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri urging his second-in-command to “do something.†Sources told the BBC that the alleged plot would include explosives and suicide attacks against Western ambassadors and foreign embassies. Meanwhile, American drone strikes killed four militants, although it remained unclear if the strikes were related to the current threat.

A-Rod Booed in Chicago
Not exactly the way anyone wants to make their season debut. Alex Rodriguez was booed Monday night in Chicago as he came to bat in the second inning of the Yankees’ game against the White Sox—his first game of the season and just hours after he was handed a 211-game suspension. He hit a shallow single to left field, earning more boos. Rodriguez is appealing his suspension and is able to play during his appeal.

CNN) -- By most standards Matt and Paige Figi were living the American dream. They met at Colorado State University, where they shared a love of the outdoors. After getting married, the couple bought a house and planned to travel the world. They did travel, but their plans changed when their first child was born in 2004.
Max was 2 when they decided to have another child. The couple got the surprise of their lives when an ultrasound revealed not one but two babies. Charlotte and Chase were born October 18, 2006.
"They were born at 40 weeks. ... Charlotte weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces," Paige said. "They were healthy. Everything was normal."

CNN) -- Commuters encountered an unexpected passenger when they boarded a New York City subway train early Wednesday: a shark. A still wet 1-and-a-half foot shark carcass was discovered on the floor of a subway car at around midnight in downtown Manhattan.
"I thought it was just a plush toy or a prank," passenger Juan Cano told CNN. "When I saw the teeth that's I knew it was real, it was no toy."
The shark, described as weighing between five to 10 pounds, was discovered near a row of seats by passengers on the Queens-bound N train at the 14th Street stop.

(CNN) -- More than 100,000 people are eager to make themselves at home on another planet. They've applied for a one-way trip to Mars, hoping to be chosen to spend the rest of their lives on uncharted territory, according to an organization planning the manned missions.
The Mars One project wants to colonize the red planet, beginning in 2022. There are financial and practical questions about this venture that haven't been clarified. Will there be enough money? Will people really be able to survive on Mars? But these haven't stopped some 30,000 Americans from signing up.
You can see some of the candidates on the project's website, but they're not the only ones who have applied, said Bas Lansdorp, Mars One CEO and co-founder.
"There is also a very large number of people who are still working on their profile, so either they have decided not to pay the application fee, or they are still making their video or they're still filling out the questionnaire or their resume. So the people that you can see online are only the ones that have finished and who have set their profiles as public," Lansdorp said.
