A Colombian man has reportedly had his penis amputated after he took too much Viagra.

The 66-year-old farmer, of the southern town of Gigante, is said to have popped several of the member-enhancing pills to impress his lover.



After he suffered a weeklong erection, his private parts became inflamed, and the former local politician developed gangrene.



Doctors told him his only option was to have the organ amputated.



Otherwise, they said, the condition, which stops blood supply, could spread to the rest of his body.

"The patient showed bruising on the the testicles and penis, was treated and is recovering well," Dr Antonio Correa told La Nacion.



The incident led bosses at Neiva Hospital to warn that men should not use erectile dysfunction medication without a prescription from their doctors.
