No single person can make it bad for any race. Black people are doing bad because of traits we learned during slavery that trickled down through the generations without ever being fully resolved. Obama is questionable but the statement you made is unfair.

'traits we learned in slavery'  maybe western black people but africans were not enslaved in africa..so they never learnt any slavery traits.  yet the problems in/of africa I have in mind stem directly from decisions african leaders made/make.

we now learned what Mandella and them did even before aparthied was done....even before he was let out of Jail.  apartheid was defeated and they admit now hat they did not have to do what they did..that is to make deals with the west sell out the people of South Africa.

yes that is what the ANC did.  the current conditions of South Africa was agreed to by the great mandella.  all you have to do is use your Google finger to get a great deal of in on the ANC betrayal of the african people.

go on right through africa..all countries and see what they have done..that is the african elites working for their own wealth in collusion with western corporations have sold out africa.  there are 2 african eliets that have stood up for their people  In Zmbabwe and the Eritrean elites.  there is some resistance in the Sudan.  but look at what the south Sudan did as soon as they got independence:  the gave Israel a piece of their land in the South sudan larger than all of western europe combined with all the rights necessary in the land water and air.

Israelis are free to go there and do whatever they want.  they can build a nation in there and no one can tell them anything at all. 

and this is happening all over africa..giving away african land to the west, to china, to the arabs to india/indians.  and there is worse too.  while all th lad giving is taking place some countries are rounding up africans living on the land given away for thousands of years.  they are placing these people on reservations just like was done to the indians of north america. 

but its africans who are doing this to africans..africans who were never enslaved and did not learn any bad behaviour from slavery.

and even worse there are 2 genocides going on now in which collectively more than 12 million africans have been killed over the past 10 years or so..in the Congo and in Ethiopia.  then there was the previous mass killer Kagame of Rwanda, now an american pet and prime minister of that country supported by america.

then next door there is Musaveni of Uganda heed deep in the blood of Ugandans and the Congolese people. 

there is no one holding guns to the heads of these leaders and elites classes they represent.  they are greedy that's all..greedy to the complete degree in that they are doing all and any dam thing they see as necessary for accumulating great wealth including killing off their people and giving away African land by the millions of hectares.

then there is the west indies that long ago, at the point of independence gave away the region to the banksters..which is why the west indies is always strapped without money for its own development..why the west indian currencies are all gutted inflated all to hell so they can buy little in the world for their development.... so that the region is compelled to hell, going down since independence never up.

but you all of this has long been know.  all of it.  none of the leaders of the west can be said to have been stupid or hamstrung by bad behaviour learnt in slavery.  we have great problems still from slavery of course but they do not prevent us from knowing what to do to set up a reality that would clean up these very problems from that long exploitation.

all our leaders and elite classes have always known what to do to solve the situation..and when in power they have done the opposite.  a lot of them like Eric Williams knew the problems inside out.  he wrote great book about these problems yet betrayed what he knew when in power.

and where our leaders were not great historians and scholars of one sort or another there were great west indian scholars outside of politics who explained our reality to us and to the world. sick from slavery or not we knew then as we know now what must be done but we never do it.  there are many rewards for the powerful few in betrayal of the general social interest.  the powers that be in the world would pay those in power to sell out their nations.  and with lots of money of their own they rig the political systems of most counties to get those they want into elected power so the can make laws that facilitate the exploitation of the people.

those african west indians, africans, african americans who offer themselves up for power do so in the full knowledge that they will be asked to sell out and have done so for the most part.  they are all conscious, literate people, totally capable of understanding what they do.  slavery did not impair their ability to be conscious of right and wrong relatively.  yet they always chose the corporate interest over that of their people and nation.

you can talk about slavery all you want..and you would be right that there is much damage done to black people that still must be corrected.  yet what is wrong with black people does not preclude us acting on macro levels consistent with our collective best interest and so give ourselves chance to correct these long standing and on-going problems. we do not and that is our fault as much as it is the fault of those who exploit us.  none of the betrayals of black people by black leadership were unconscious.  the traitors knew exactly what they were doing.  there is record and proof of that admitted by the traitors themselves..and otherwise exposed by by investigative writers, historians etc
