Kenyans Win NYC Marathon

Kenyans Geoffrey Mutai and Priscah Jeptoo won the New York City marathon on Sunday, in a race filled with meaning after last year’s race was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy and the Boston Marathon bombings earlier this year. Security was “everywhere” in the 26.2-mile, five-borough race, according to the race’s fans. Jeptoo, 29, trailed Bronx resident Buzubesh Deba with just three minutes left to go in the race, and overtook Deba to finish at 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 7 seconds. Mutai, 32, powered ahead in the home stretch of the race, coming into the Central Park finish line at 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 24 seconds. Nearly 50,000 runners competed in the NYC marathon this year.
