San Francisco (AFP) - US President Barack Obama defended his administration's Iran policy on Monday but said "huge challenges" remained to successfully implement a landmark deal on Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

Obama has come under fierce criticism from Republican rivals at home and key allies abroad, such as Israel, for pursuing a diplomatic solution to the Iran question.
Israel decried the breakthrough agreement reached in Geneva on Sunday -- under which Tehran agreed to curb its nuclear program in return for an easing of sanctions -- as a "historic mistake."
Obama, however, insisted that the US policy of diplomacy twinned with sanctions had been more productive than rhetoric, stating that "tough talk" alone would not guarantee US security.

I have often wondered about the sanctimonious manner in which we proclaim and impose our values on others.
Israel, having contravened the most UN resolutions against 'US', seems to have the favour of the World. I fully appreciate the Balfour declaration but you would expect those who have been suppressed to have a greater understanding.
When Cherie Blair, having visited the Palestine, said she understood why people can be suicide bombers, there was an outcry, and to a large degree you can understand both the outcry and the perspective.
It does not matter about hue, caste or otherwise, if your are subjugated to an environment, you respond accordingly.
I do not believe anyone should develop Nuclear missiles, but we cannot be on our high horses dictating to others.
Given the above, there is always a need to have mediators, however America is worst placed, in my view.
I suppose I am under the tree now.....
