A PAINTER, who bit his girlfriend on Wednesday during an argument, told the police that she was unfaithful to him.Dillon Reyes said yesterday he was unsure of the status of the relationship, since he was arrested after the altercation.
Police prosecutor Sgt Denzil Alexander told the San Fernando Fourth Court that at around 10.30 p.m. on Wednesday, the victim was at Independence Avenue, San Fernando when she and Reyes were involved in an argument.
“As a result, the defendant dealt her several blows about her body and bit her on her right cheek and left shoulder,†Alexander said. The victim was interviewed in Reyes’s presence and asked whether the allegation made by the woman was true.
Reyes, 41, of Fyzabad, answered, “Officer, she horn meh.â€
He appeared before Magistrate Adia Mohammed charged with assault by beating.
Reyes said he and the woman, with whom he shared a relationship for the past 12 months, were drinking alcohol. He said he was talking to her about infidelity which had happened in the past and which he suspected was still happening.
“It ended up in a big thing. She cuffed me first in the eye...she bite me,†Reyes told the magistrate.
Reyes said he had not been taken for medical attention and his eye was in pain.
Charging officer constable Nicolette Persad told the court there was a scuffle between the two.
Alexander said Reyes had previous convictions for common assault and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Reyes, a painter and clothes salesman, said he had documents at home to prove the outcome of these criminal matters.
Mohammed ordered a probation officer’s report on Reyes to determine his suitability for community service.
Reyes, who was placed on $20,000 bail, is to visit the probation officer and was ordered to return to court on February 2.
Persad is to ensure the victim is present on that day.
