Man arrested for planassing daughter

A 47-YEAR-old construction worker was up to yesterday in police custody following a report that he publicly planassed (beating with the flat side of a cutlass) his 16-year-old daughter in the full view of the public during a march past practice session, being held at the Jackson Trace Football Field in Buenos Ayres, Erin, on Sunday.

Police said the teenager does not live with the suspect, but with a grandparent, was taken to the Point Fortin District Health Facility where she was treated, and subsequently discharged.

The man, police said, has a history of beating the teenager. The secondary school student suffered cuts and bruises about her back and shoulder, police reported.

According to investigators the incident which took place at about 6 pm on Sunday, was recorded on cellphones by several persons who were present at the time. Only last week, police said, school officials reported that the teenager had marks of violence on her body, which were allegedly caused by beating.

Relatives however dispute the allegations stating that the “girl is a problem child” and was not planassed as reported by police. “She is giving trouble, and came home late that night. She might only have gotten a burst lip,” the relative said.

Charges are expected to be laid against the suspect, police said.

WPC Bridgeman and PC Alexander visited the scene, and are continuing investigations.
