Two men are now hospitalized in the New Amsterdam Hospital following a robbery at Maida Farm on the Corentyne.
Businessman Bannsingh Guyadin, called ‘Uncle Guya’ 72, of Maida Farm, Corentyne; Berbice and one of his employees, Kissoondat Madhoo, 28, of Bush Lot, Corentyne were shot and wounded around 19:30 hrs during the robbery.
Guyadin and some of his employees, including Madhoo, operated a bar at the Horse Race meet at the Kennard Memorial Turf Club on Sunday.
About 19:00 hrs Guyadin and his workmen left for his home in a Canter truck. Guyadin and Madhoo were in the tray of the vehicle. As the truck reached Guyadin’s residence about 19:30 hours the vehicle started to reverse into the yard, the men were accosted by two men one of whom was armed with a shot gun. They were ordered to lie down.
Around the same time the man with the shot gun discharged a round at the two men hitting both of them in their legs. They relieved them of a bag with $400,000 in cash, before making good their escape.
The men were picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital for emergency treatment. They remain warded.
No one has been arrested as yet.
A police report stated that at about 1900h Sunday, businessman Bannsingh Guyadin, 72 years, of Maida, Corentyne, and Kissoondat Madhoo, 28 years, of Bush Lot, Corentyne, were shot and injured to their feet during an armed robbery.
Investigations are continuing.
