DYNAMIC Airways was officially launched in grand style at Duke Lodge, Kingston on Friday. The company has partnered with Guyana’s very own Roraima Airways to bring this service to Guyanese. The United States registered carrier will be dedicating two of its 767 wide body aircraft to the Guyana market.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer of Roraima Airways, Captain Gerald Gouveia, expressed the hope that the airline will be able the fill the void left by the national airline (Guyana Airways) years ago. He said, “We have been looking for a long time for a partner in the US to work with and are happy with the collaboration with Dynamic Airways”. He also announced that the fleet of Boeing 767s will be flying to other destinations which includs Barbados, Brazil and Toronto twice weekly.
Gouveia noted that this would not have been possible without the support of the Guyana Government, adding that the new carrier is expected to promote Guyanese culture in a significant way and will employ considerable numbers of Guyanese, since the company advertising for Guyanese flight attendants.
It was announced that flights will commence on June 26 at an introductory cost of US$499 between New York and Guyana, and persons flying from Guyana to New York will pay US$575. Persons travelling will be allowed two pieces of luggage at 55 pounds each and one hand luggage at 25 pounds. There will be four schedule flights per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Senior Vice President, Business Development of Dynamic Airways, Tom Johnson, expressed his joy at launching the service. “I am very excited about partnering with Roraima and Guyana… We are here for the long haul and we see a future in Guyana that we want to be a part of and help it grow,” he said. Johnson reiterated that the company will be looking to have as many Guyanese on board as possible and noted his commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the airline on the local market.
President of Guyana, Donald Ramotar, during his address, said that the airline will help to also lower fares as it offers more competition in the aviation sector. “I think this new venture, when it gets on stream, it will make a major contribution, not only to make it easier …I hope we’ll get the same ease in our people moving to the different destinations that we will go to. It will increase arrivals and improve tourism, develop agriculture and make a bigger contribution to the development of our society”.
He noted that the new airline will help to boost tourism and it is his hope that in so doing, more of the “tourist dollars” would remain in Guyana to further its development, unlike other nations where 80 to 90% of every dollar spent leaves the country.
Minister of Public Works Transport and Hydraulics, Robeson Benn, echoing the President’s words, described the venture as a vote of confidence in Guyana.
Tourism Minister (ag) Irfaan Ali, said that the developments occurring are not just rhetoric. “Copa could not be rhetoric, Copa is here, Dynamic is not rhetoric, Dynamic is here, the new airport project is not rhetoric, it is ongoing, the Marriott Hotel is not rhetoric, it is ongoing. Guyana is moving forward, we are moving forward regardless of which side of the political divide we may fall, this country belongs to all of us, the future belongs to all of us, and we all have a moral and ethical responsibility to leave something behind”.He further called on those gathered to recommit themselves to national patriotic development. The new airline will also help to boost the arrivals for the upcoming Guyana festival and tourism in general.
The airline has already filed all necessary documents and a bond with the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and local bookings could be done through Roraima Airways or travel agents. International bookings could be done via the airline’s website, www.fly-dynamic.com .
