One of the biggest problems with our education system today is that we hold our kids to extreme standards that are often very hard to meet.  To put it simply, we're pushing children too hard these days.

Instead of kids learning what is actually learning what they will actually need to use in real life, they are learning what the government tells them they need to know. We are not actually teaching them anything, all we are teaching them is how to pass standardized tests.

Standardized testing needs to be abolished because it doesn't prove anything. Just because you do better on a standardized test does not mean that you are any smarter than the next kid. He just means you are better at taking tests.

The fact of the matter is that everybody learns differently and everybody has certain subjects that they are stronger at than others. The fact that we give the same exact test for every single student is asinine because all students are different.

One of my favorite quotes describes the education system perfectly. It was said by Albert Einstein and it goes:  "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."

That is exactly what we do today. We assume certain students are stupid because they can't pass the states' standardized tests.

You would think somebody as smart as Bill Gates would realize that his Common Core standards are only going to hurt the education system.

I HATE the Common Core. Most states with prestigious state universities have better academic standards than the rotten CC. Th CC is only for ELA and Math. They don't have standards for Science of Social Studies/History.

Every state in the upper Midwest have much better core standards than the CC. Those standards set for New York, Maryland, New Jersey and Connecticut are the best in the country. However, not every state can achieve all of those east cost levels. Not all states require preschool. An affluent state like Connecticut has private preschools and public ones as well. That has been one of the reasons for Connecticut succeeding better than most other state school districts.
