Saw this last night after seeing some excellent reviews online.
I didn't realize until afterwards however, that this movie was the sequel to 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' from 2011.
I give it 3 1/2 stars out of five. The CGI effects were outstanding but that is to expect in this day in age. The story and main plot has a lot of parallels to the colonization of the American West and the inevitable conflict between Whites and Natives that followed. The humans desire a hydro electric plant to get their power back and return to their lifestyle before the apocalyptic events which led them to where they, and the Apes, are in. The plant however just so happens to be located on Ape territory. As it was in the West, the needs of the humans (read Whites) is seen as more desirous than the needs of the Apes. It is the Apes who must make concessions and sacrifices to avoid war and conflict.
All in all a very entertaining movie. I now must see the first movie to understand how the Apes acquired their super intellengence and bi-pedal abilities.
One side note. Hollywood still cannot get out of this prism of White = good, Black = evil. The main protagonist Ape, Caesar, is a fair skinned Ape. The main antagonist Ape, Koba, is a very black skinned hideous looking Ape with a discernible Africanized accent. I need not say more.

HAHAHAHA!! I had a special date last night Bro.
But I really loved the original 'Planet of the Apes' from 1968 starring Moses...erm...Charlton Heston. Loved the ideas which formed the premise of human greed and stupidity getting the better of them only for Apes to evolve as the planet's dominant species and adopt some of the same traits which cause the demise of humans before them. Of course the ending was epic.
