Former White House spokesman James Brady, who became a devout gun control advocate after being shot in the head and nearly killed during an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan in 1981, has died. He was 73.
Early news reports actually listed Brady as dead in the early moments after Reagan was shot on the street by John Hinckley Jr.
After the chaos and confusion lessened, news began to surface about Brady’s miraculous survival.
His life after that was a struggle. He was confined to a wheelchair, communicated with slurred speech and was in constant pain. But he never gave up on life.
“We are heartbroken to share the news that our beloved Jim ‘Bear’ Brady has passed away after a series of health issues,†Brady’s family said in a statement.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
