WASHINGTON (AP) — A commercial aircraft chartered by the U.S.-led military coalition in Afghanistan for a flight to the Persian Gulf city of Dubai was re-routed to Iran on Friday, apparently because of a mix-up over its flight plan, U.S. officials said.
The plane was flying from Bagram airfield north of Kabul to Dubai. The normal flight path goes through Iranian airspace.
One official said Iranians radioed the plane's crew to say they did not have the proper paperwork and to return to Bagram. The pilots said they did not have enough fuel to return so the Iranian authorities told them to land in Iran.
A senior State Department official said the issue appeared to have been resolved after the plane landed at Bandar Abbas in southern Iran and officials believed the plane would be cleared to resume its journey. The officials were not authorized to be named and spoke on condition of anonymity.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A chartered aircraft carrying about 100 U.S. citizens from Afghanistan to Dubai has taken off from Bandar Abbas, Iran, where it was diverted because of issues with its flight plan, a U.S. official said on Friday.
"It ... has taken off," the official said of the Fly Dubai aircraft. The plane had left Bagram airbase in Afghanistan several hours late, but failed to update its flight plan, the official said.
As a result, Iranian officials first asked it to turn around and then to land when told it did not have enough fuel to return to Afghanistan, the official said.
Fly Dubai confirmed in a statement that its charter "is now enroute to Dubai."

A small U.S. private plane with an unresponsive pilot crashed off the east coast of Jamaica on Friday after veering far off its course toward southwest Florida and triggering a U.S. security alert that prompted a fighter jet escort.
A New York county official said that Larry Glazer, a real-estate executive from Rochester in New York, and his wife, Jane Glazer, were aboard the plane. Both were killed, the official said.
Search and rescue teams, including a military plane and a helicopter, were despatched to the crash site about 14 miles (22 km) north of the tourist town of Port Antonio, Jamaica's Civil Aviation Authority said.
The United States Coast Guard also joined the search with an HC-130 Hercules airplane and a helicopter, as well as a Coast Guard Cutter en route.
"At this time we have not located the aircraft or debris," a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said late on Friday afternoon.
The pilot stopped responding to radio calls about an hour after take-off from Greater Rochester International Airport in New York and was headed to Naples Municipal Airport in Florida, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Tallinn (AFP) - Russia's arrest of an Estonian policeman has sparked fears that Moscow is using the incident to test NATO's resolve to defend its small Baltic allies as the crisis in eastern Ukraine rumbles on.
Moscow detained officer Eston Kohver on Saturday in what Russia claims is a spying probe. Prosecutors say he was arrested in possession of a pistol, ammunition, 5,000 euros ($6,500) and "special equipment to carry out covert recordings".
But Tallinn alleges Russia kidnapped Kohver from Estonia at gunpoint as he was investigating cross-border crime.
A source close to the probe in Moscow quoted on Monday by Russia's Interfax news agency said Kohver had denied being a spy or smuggling a firearm into the country.

Former professional wrestler Sean Haire, who went by the stage name of Sean O’Haire, has died at the age of 43 of what is being ruled a suicide. According to local Spartanburg, S.C.
police, the WCW/WWE star was found dead in his bedroom with a rope tied around his neck in his bedroom. O'Haire first made his World Champion Wrestling debut in 2000. During his time in the WWE, he developed a Devil’s advocate character who inspired people to commit acts of chaos. He would tell the audience to break the law, cheat on their spouses and not pay taxes before saying, "I'm not telling you anything you don't already know."
