WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton took the extraordinary step of calling President Obama to smooth things over after second-guessing his foreign-policy positions in a widely circulated magazine interview.
Clinton called Obama “to make sure he knows that nothing she said was an attempt to attack him, his policies, or his leadership,†according to a statement her office issued that only underscored the tense state of affairs.
Trying to lighten the tone, Clinton said she and Obama would be “hugging it out†when the two attend the same event Wednesday on Martha’s Vineyard.
Just hours earlier, David Axelrod — who was Obama’s top strategist in his primary campaign against Clinton in 2008 — responded to her recent comments ridiculing an Obama White House foreign-policy mantra: “Don’t do stupid s–t.â€
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
