European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs yesterday signed development programmes for 21 African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group countries and Guyana’s allocation is Euros 34 Million ($9.28B) over the next seven years.
A release from the European Union yesterday said that the funds for Guyana will focus mainly on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, including sea defences. The agreement was signed in the Pacific Ocean island of Samoa.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

When will this culture of dependency end? What is this government's and any future government's plans to end this culture of perpetual welfare? Without foreign aid, monthly remittances and barrels Guyana and Guyanese will sink like the proverbial stone. These acts of kindness deprive us of our independence because a beggar never decides on principles. A beggar decides on fear of loss of handouts. I remember a Caricom neoghbour chastising our president for his constant cup in the hand tour of world capitals begging on bended knees for assistance. Guyana needs a plan with a fixed date for escape from this eternal dependency.
