WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Virginia preschool teacher has been arrested and charged with assault and battery after she allegedly punished a 13-month-old boy by biting his shoulder, police said on Monday.
Theresa Brown, 24, is accused of biting the toddler on Sept. 11 at The Goddard School in Woodbridge, Virginia, a private school about 22 miles (35 km) southwest of Washington, according to Prince William County police.
Brown bit the child who was enrolled at the school, leaving a visible mark, as punishment after he had bitten another teacher, police said.
A witness reported the incident to the school's 24-year-old co-owner, Nadia Choudhry. Choudhry did not report the incident and was charged with failing to report the offense to authorities, which state law requires, police said.
Officials at the school, described on its website as serving infants to school-age children, declined to comment.
As of Monday, Brown was no longer listed online as a member of Goddard faculty.

An adult bites a child! I have heard it all now. I can hardly believe some crazy mess like that.
The teacher was trying to teach a lesson to the child. However, the child was a toddler. They do not learn in the same manner as five or six year old children. All that toddler will remember is getting bitten.
I can predict the future! I see a lawsuit.

Now one teacher is in the news for molesting girls, another came to school drunk and no panties on, and now one has bitten a baby?
Oh come on... What's next?

I wish I could say I am shock but I'm not. I have seen some disturbing stuff take place in daycares and preschools. As a matter of fact, when I was in college a 6 years ago I took a job as a substitute teacher. I had one assignment at a preschool. Granted, the children were not angels and this is normal when you're dealing with active 3 and 4 year olds. However, the teachers in this classroom should have never been hired. I've seen them hit the kids, grab them aggressively by their clothing and more. It's unbelievable what went on in the classroom.

It's a field I could never work in, especially as a substitute or assistant, because I can't just stand by and watch children being abused and do nothing about it.
