We don't worship cows. We see them as sacred but they are not God like . I was made fun of by morons who were probably brothers of Mapoopoo and Kwami in high school, called a cow worshiper and a snake worshiper.  These are symbols related to the Hindu Gods. The serpent is regarded as both a positive and negative symbol in Hinduism. Lord Shiva is often shown with a snake curled three times around his neck. Then there was the snake demon that tried to kill Lord Krishna, his name was Kaliya I believe. He was owned after Krishna climbed atop his head and stomped his head and drained the poison out of him. This is all mythological obviously. But snakes have been shown in both a positive and negative light in the Hindu religion.

But do you know what snakes and cows actually have to do with humans?

you are correct, Hindus do not worship the cows but honor it by showng great respect to cows.
