Beaten Rupununi farmer dies

A Rupununi farmer, who was allegedly beaten by several men almost two weeks ago, died on Sunday, police said.

He has been identified as 52-year old Clifton Clement of Hiawa Village, Central Rupununi.

Investigators said Clement was imbibing and was beaten by several men on October 1 in the vicinity of the Takatu Bridge, Lethem.

He had been admitted to the Lethem Hospital and was subsequently discharged. Police said they were awaiting the results of an autopsy as part of their investigations.
