A fisherman is now dead while another is injured following an altercation during a drinking spree on Sunday afternoon at Number 66 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The dead man was identified as Lakeram Singh, 53, also called “David†or “Dafat†of Lot 13 Fryish Village, Corentyne, while the injured man is Elton Lilley, 44, of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara.
According to reports received, the two men were imbibing at house at Lot 47, Number 66 Village when an argument ensued, followed by an altercation.
During the scramble, Singh reportedly picked up a cutlass and dealt Lilly a chop to his hand. In retaliating, Lilly reportedly collected a knife and stabbed Singh about five times, once to the face, three times to the back and once to the head.
After the stabbing incident, Singh was picked up and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention.
Lilly, on the other hand, fled the scene and was arrested at Cove and John as he was on his way home. The suspect was taken into Police custody and is expected to be charged with the capital offense of murder. Police are continuing their investigations.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
