Is Rotel Really Doritos and Ground Beef with Some Kind of Cheesy Sauce?

I am so confused as to what Rotel really is? I see a lot of people of the Midwest and Southern areas of the US making Rotel as a snack, but it looks horrible! Their recipes are quite simple and consist of nacho cheese Doritos, topped with ground beef that has been smothered in melted cheese (from a can). Did I miss something or is this what Rotel really should be?  ::

I should have posted a picture initially. I keep being told it is a Trinidadian dish. I have eaten Roti, but Rotel? I don't think this is Trini at all, but I may be wrong. It's the stuff on the left of the pic, just in case you were as confused as I was.

As far as I know, Rotel is a canned tomato company.
